HISTORY

The Abbey Park site is steeped in history. Formerly hosting accommodation for St Leonards School, the grounds are much loved by many who live in and around St Andrews.

Knightsbridge intends to open up the historic grounds to residents and visitors alike, encouraging engagement with both the history of the site and the modern haven it will become.

Residential areas will be placed in the zones of previous development to keep the layout true to its roots and homes will be named after historic features in the original layout.

The original wall that encircled the school's walled garden will be retained and the orchard, which provided the school with fresh fruit, will be reinstated to allow residents unrivalled access to fruit picked from the trees.

The historic plants and trees on site will also be reinstated, with cuttings of the indigenous trees and bushes being taken to further populate the extended green spaces. These green areas will further the former academic use of the land as they will be utilised as case studies for Elmwood College.

St Leonards School has had a long and harmonious association with Robertson Group. Over 10 years ago Robertson Group took over surplus school property at St Leonards Fields. It is not economically possible for St Leonards School to maintain land and buildings that it does not require and our agreement with Robertson Group provides the best chance for a sustainable future for the site. It is good news for the St Andrews community that the development will restore the Abbey Park site to its former glory.
