AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Knightsbridge is committed to providing affordable housing within the Abbey Park development. With 30% of the development dedicated to affordable housing Abbey Park represents the biggest strategic affordable housing opportunity that the region has ever seen.
In order to deliver to the community of St Andrews, Knightsbridge and Kingdom Housing Association will work in partnership to deliver the affordable element of the housing proposals for Abbey Park in a phased and integrated manner. The affordable housing will be on-site, and will be constructed by Knightsbridge on behalf of the Kingdom Housing Association.
Fife Council’s priority is the successful delivery of social rented housing, but there is also an aspiration that our proposed development contributes towards other forms of affordable housing. Knightsbridge hopes to deliver not only social rented accommodation, but also an element of mid-market rental properties and low cost home ownership.
The development of Abbey Park could ultimately mean that 75 affordable homes will be built in the heart of St Andrews. These will consist of a range of sizes and types and a mix of affordable tenures, including rented and low-cost home ownership.
Given the uniqueness of this particular development site, great care will be taken by Knightsbridge to ensure the full integration of all of these units in order to avoid segregation of house-types and style within the overall layout of the development.
Kingdom Housing Association successfully secured funding from the Scottish Government to provide affordable housing at Greenside Place in St Andrews. The funding will enable the Association to build the first phase of social housing which will comprise of nine social rented flats. The funding is subject to work commencing on the Abbey Park site no later than the end of March 2012.
"Kingdom Housing Association is delighted to be working with Knightsbridge. It is so encouraging to see a company of this calibre putting so much time and effort into ensuring that the affordable housing is properly planned. There is a significant need for affordable housing in St Andrews and it will be great to be able to provide low cost housing in such a great location."
